Take me away back to the green fields of May

Sorry about last week. I saw a pretty big drop off in readers, and I can't blame you guys. Thanks for those of you who checked in once in a while, and I hope the rest of you will make your way back.

Last week was a rough one. There was a lot happening and I was having a very hard time dealing with it, and a lot of things that fell to the wayside. One plus was that my party did go very well. The weekend started out rather disappointing. I've been going to hot yoga lessons. Now, I'm usually a rather sweaty person anyway, and as such I'm usually dehydrated. Because of this, and the EXCESSIVE amount of sweat you will produce in a 105 degree room, I make it a point to drink a bottle of water before, during and after class. Well, Friday, I got the during, and part of the after, but I completely forgot the before. I barely made it through class, I was dizzy and nauseous, and that lasted through Friday night and until noon on Saturday. (Can I say that I do NOT recommend that? Drink water people!) Because I felt so sick, I ended up sleeping really late, and even though I got up a few times and tried, I missed the bi-annual flea market that my community has. It's really big, and I was really looking forward to going with my mom and sister. But no such luck.

I am glad that I stayed in bed though, because when I finally DID get up, I felt WORLDS better, so I could actually enjoy the party. It ended up being a little small, but that made it all the better as we could all fit into our tiny kitchen and stuff our faces and talk. The food was wonderful and there was a great deal of wine consumed. There were many girly dresses and a strange battle over the Pandora station that would play, which led to a constant switching between Lilly Allen and Danzig. Two great tastes that don't taste great together :)  It was a good time. I sadly forgot to bring out my camera, but I got some shots the next day of some of the aftermath. It really wasn't too bad. Once I get the time I'll post pictures. I have a bunch from the last week.

That weekend was nice, but that Monday I got hit with a really bad spell of depression. I fought really hard with depression through high school and my first years of college, and they were some really dark years for me. I don't like it when that feeling comes back to haunt me. I've been in a much much better place for a long time now, I've been off of medication, and back to my usual, happy, chipper self. Monday and Tuesday were then doubly awful because not only was I really depressed, but I was afraid that I was slipping back down that slope into it, and it terrified me.

By Wednesday I just couldn't take it anymore, I was completely run down both physically and mentally, and I really needed a break before I got really sick. The husband had been going into work super early to set up new computers, and he was due home early, at 2. So I had a mental health day and called out of work. I spent the morning in bed, which mostly got rid of the baby migraine that I had since Monday, and then got up and spent a large part of the rest of the day on the sofa. It was completely non productive, I did nothing but stare at the computer and watch movies, and it was completely what I needed. Getting to see him early helped a lot too. :)

By Thursday I was feeling a whole ton better, and I got through those two work days stress free. I found a mini flea market on Saturday, and one of my bestest girls and the hubs and I got to go to that. I found a great bag that was hand embroidered in Egypt, and got it for $10, all of which went back to help the women's program there that makes them and teaches Egyptian women life skills they can apply to jobs, like clothing and bag making, bead work and embroidery. I really love finding groups like that to support.

I also got a HUGE stack of linen napkins/handkerchiefs, and I finally got around to this learning to embroider thing I've been talking about. Yay! I'm still not very good, but I have my first piece nearing completion. I used a great little pattern by Doe-c-Doe. I really love her stuff, and saved a few patterns to use in the future.

Hopefully this week will see things return to normal. My summer class starts tomorrow, it's Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6-9 pm. Luckily it's only through July 20th or so. I'm not looking forward to it, but at the same time I'm excited. How does that work? Oh well, at least I got to see the season finales of Fringe and Castle before it starts. (Both of which had me screaming and throwing things at the TV by the way. Why is it not fall yet?? They can't leave things so unfinished!! GRR!!)

Sorry about the random long-as-crap posts. I'm going to try to have more consistent, shorter posts throughout the week instead. I hope the long ones don't bother you too much!

recommendations? absolutely.

So there has been a lot of talk lately in the blog-o-sphere about tattoos. I love tattoos. (I don't know if you've noticed or not. ^_^)

I also love Stephen King. I don't know that I've ever read a book by him (Or by Clive Barker) that I didn't love. One of the last ones that I read was Lisey's Story. And I highly recommend it.

What do these have in common you ask? Well let me tell you. You see that unassuming little red cover up there? *Points* well, all that red is a dust jacket. I do NOT like dust jackets. Thus, the first thing I did was pull it off. And what was I met with?

This beauty:

GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY. Look at that monster! Isn't it like, the most beautiful thing EVER?

I'm in love. Like, really, really, really in love. And I immediately knew that I had to do something to work this into me somewhere. This riot of color has to be on my body. I love it! (Did I say that yet?)

So, once tonight is done, completing my spring classes, I'm going to take the time to layout a nice design with this puppy, and most likely incorporate some little forest buddies too. Like these guys

(both found via google image search)

I'm so excited! It's going to complete this arm:

Yay!

Also, everyone should be checking out the TED speaker series  They are really amazing roughly 10 minute lectures made by some of the most awesome people alive.

This is one of my favorites so far! (Hope that worked, I've never tried this...)

screaming makes it better

I can't express how happy that I am that it's already Wednesday,  and how upset I am that it's only Wednesday. It's been a very long, extremely stressful week. Our flooring was done, but cleaning up took much longer than expected, we got the new stove (And found the cat's hidden stash of stuff under the old one) and I made many trips to Ikea.

Oh Ikea, I love you. One of the big problems with our old carpet was that the dog would sleep at the bottom of the steps, and every time she lay down there she would give it a scratch or two. These scratches are no big deal, until they're every day for a few years. She wore a hole right through to the wood floor below. So I got her a little mat for there. It's a lot easier to replace a $3 mat than a $300 carpet.

Here she is trying to look innocent in her old-cut-off-pants-leg-babushka outfit

I also got BEAUTIFUL new fabric (Again with the Ikea love) We have a really nice desk chair that has just gotten destroyed sitting in the basement. It's in good shape except for the fabric of it (Thanks cats. jeeze), so I'm going to start my first venture into reupholstering. Woo!

I also got a new ovenmit, and cleaned out our random why-do-we-have-so-many oven mitt collection. Now we have two nice ones, that work, and don't take up all the space in the drawer.

We also finally got our house (Mostly) clean. I present, the new floors! Yay!

Excuse the gross fish tank. Our ancient suckerfish finally passed away. We hadn't cleaned his tank out completely yet.

The spare room still has a lot of work to be done, but it's actually not too bad! (Contrary to how this picture looks...) I should have it done soon. Well, when I get time. :)

And the living room is clean again! Yay! There's a couple things left over (The lamp we use to light the attic for instance, sorry about that)  but it doesn't make me mental anymore, and you can tell that we have a couch, unlike before when it was buried.

On top of all of that, it's finals week. I still have a 10 page paper to write before Thursday night, and I just finished my last painting last night. I have my final review for that tonight. Yay! This week is also though, the one week a month where our catalog is due at work. This means A LOT of extra work on my part (Like, 10 hour days Monday and Tuesday, extra) so I've been a little stressed out. It's all wrapping up now though, and this weekend is my birthday party. I'm getting together Friday night with two of my bestest girls to bake for it, and I think it will be an amazing, relaxing way to round this out. Then on Memorial weekend, I have a four day weekend. Woot! That will be spent, in large part, working at a local metal festival. But that's a whole different post.

I'll leave you with some stuff to make you smile. It makes me smile at least. :)  Some violets and dandelions that I saved from the lawn before mowing, and my favorite dog/husband duo in the whole world. <3

Hope your week has been going smoothly!

This is the current state of my usually neat living room. everything had to be moved out of the rooms getting new flooring. the guys are working now. = think the cats are sufficently freaked out. usually when they're locked in the basement, they spend time clawing at the door, but today it's VERY QUIET down there. :)
I'll post an update picture when its done! hopefully not from my phone, cause it's kinda hard...sorry for any typos!

I have so much to say

But my brain feels like chocolate pudding. My allergies are lethal today.

We made a lot of advancements on the house this weekend. Nothing is done yet, but appointments were made to get new laminate floors on the second floor (Coming Thursday) and a new oven (Coming Saturday). I'm really excited. Our carpet is just crap upstairs, and the cats have decided to use it as their own personal plaything. It was in bad shape when we moved in, and now it's just demolished. The two roommates that we've had haven't helped either. Not that either of them were particularly messy, there was just a lot of traffic, and they got worn out and stained up. We got GREAT financing, and while we couldn't afford to do the stairs, they threw in free good quality carpet for them, which I think I might actually be happier about. The cats fall down the stairs all the time anyway, I don't need to make that worse. :)

The oven is my biggest joy right now. That sounds..sad. But it's true. And here's why, Our current oven, it turns itself on. ALL. THE. TIME. It terrifies me. It started as a weird fluke every once in a while. You would hear a click, and the hiss of the gas lighting, and then give the knob a wiggle and it would turn off. It was once a week maybe. But it progressed quickly, and now when it turns on you have to turn it on and off a few times to get it to shut off. The one thing that makes me not completely terrified is that it's lighting, and the gas isn't just running into the house. But I still get super nervous when it started becoming so frequent. (Well, I was nervous the whole time, but we didn't really have the money.) After a generous donation from the Hubby's mom, we can now afford one! Yay! I'm so excited for Saturday. I'm thinking of shutting off the gas to the house and unplugging the stove until then. we can exist on toaster and microwave food for 4 days.

This weekend I also mowed the lawn and got all the supplies to paint our UGLY kitchen cabinets. They're awful 1970's particleboard with wood grain formica. BOO. However, once I sand them a bit and paint them white with black detailing, and put on the new knobs and drawer pulls I got, it will be a whole new kitchen! I'm going to be working on it all day Thursday when the floors are being put in. I'll HAVE to post before and after pictures, because I think it will be a completely different kitchen. How exciting!

And just in time for my birthday. We're having a super girly party on the 15th, complete with paper lanterns and hanging branches of flowers. It will be nice to have a pretty airy kitchen to go with it. The good/bad aspect about that is that we have to pack up both bedrooms and the bookcase in the hallway and move them out for the flooring to be put in. But hey, how long have I been talking about cleaning out the spare room anyway? I'm taking it as a great opportunity to clean everything out, get rid of a TON of stuff, and I'm on a tight, forced deadline, so it will HAVE to be done! I'm actually really excited.

How was your weekend?
